Return of the ‘opinóloga’

Hello Internet. Once again I return to my Medium blog but instead of 23 years young, I have surpassed the quarter century mark and return as a wise, learnéd 26 year old.

…I’m joking. My bones may creak from bad posture in quarantine but I am still very much a child at heart (as the stuffed animals on my bed will attest to.)

Reading my initial post on here, https://medium.com/@virginia.iricibar/a-medium-for-what-eaa55e0ea369, I have to say my idea for this Medium has not much changed — I still want to write opinion pieces; personal and (hopefully) somewhat professional reflections on topics and ideas that come to mind, but I dare not classify them as anything other than opinions. Hence the ‘opinóloga’ title.

“El término “Opinología” es un neologismo. Y opinólogos “se autodenominan quienes comentan y emiten opiniones en los medios de comunicación masivos”. La palabra proviene del “latín `opinari`, que significa formar o tener opinión y `logía`, (…) sufijo griego que significa ciencia. Entonces, (…) llegamos a que la opinologìa sería la ciencia de la opinión o el estudio de ésta”

Translation: The term “Opinology” is a neologism [a newly coined word or expression (Google Dictionary)]. Opinologists “call themselves those who comment and express opinions in the mass media” . The word comes from the “Latin ʻopinari`, which means to form or have an opinion and ‘logía’, (…) Greek suffix than means science. Therefore, (…) we arrive to the conclusion that opinology is the science of opinion of the study of it.

So here we go, this week I begin to post some opinions, ideas and thoughts on…well, a whole bunch of things really. There are a few ideas lined up that range from regional economics and blockchain implementation to making my bed in the morning and Star Wars vs Star Trek, so hopefully there’s something for everyone. I do invite you all to comment: the good, the bad and the ugly. My point isn’t to be correct, but to practice my writing, better my arguments and above all to hopefully learn.

Of the tentative list of topics I presented a few years ago, the Modern Philosopher’s Life essay and South American Business Forum applications were both published last year. To those few wonderful folks who read and sent me feedback — thank you. I appreciate you beyond words.

Now. Let’s see if post-quarter century me can actually stick to a schedule, shall we?
